Adams' Needle is a slow growing native evergreen plant or shrub.  It is a perennial that will grow no more than 3 feet tall.  Its leaves are long, stiff and narrow, with sharp needle ends. In summer a tall showy spike emerges from the center of the plant and displays cream colored bell-shaped flowers prominently for several weeks.

          Adam's Needle (Yucca) tolerates drought well and will grow in dry to moist soil with full sun to light shade. Yuccas have no serious pests and attract birds and butterflies. 

     Native Americans had many uses for the Yucca plant. They discovered it had medicinal purposes for relief of joint pain, inflammation and asthma. The pounded roots were used to paralyze fish corralled in traps.
