Plants that Discourage Deer Browsing
|
|||||||
This list is by no means a definitive authority. It is meant only as a guide based on a compilation of trends and habits observed by many different studies. Be aware, if deer are hungry enough, they may resort to browsing impalatable plants they have otherwise avoided in years past. If, after planting the recommended plants, you find evidence of browsing, you may have another 'culprit' in the wild: rabbits, squirrels, moles/voles and many other small animals can contribute to damage in the garden and landscape. The following list is a collection of plants arranged by plant type according to our local hardiness zones (we are generally Zones 3-5 in the CNY area) with information on the frequency in which they are browsed (with additional notes with pertinent information on specific plants). Note: Whenever possible, a specific plant is indicated using both the genus and species. Otherwise, the abbreviation "spp." Is used to indicate plants belonging to the entire scientific genius. For your reference, We have prepared a list of plants. The file is in pdf format and requires Acrobat Reader. |
