Perennial Ground Covers
|
|||||||
Perennial groundcovers represent a unique and integral part of any landscape. They are versatile, decorative and are amazing problem solvers; they add color, variety and texture while often thriving in poor light and soil under trees or where lawns refuse to grow. They are ideal for preventing soil erosion on banks – with the added benefit of replacing turf in those hard to mow steep slopes in the lawn and landscape. Planting groundcovers is also ideal in places where drought tends to affect the appearance of lawn. Once established, groundcovers reduce the amount of watering and upkeep required while enhancing the beauty of other perennials, shrubs, and trees. Ground cover planting is the perfect solution for those with a busy lifestyle. The ultimate success of ground cover planting depends, to a large measure, upon how well the varieties selected are matched to the location. Factors such as sunlight, soil type, winter exposure and size of the planting should be carefully considered before selecting the variety. Many low growing perennials and shrubs are classified under the broad category of ‘ground covers’. We have compiled a list of favorites from our inventory that have proven successful. This list will primarily be comprised of types used for ‘carpeting’ affect purposes in the landscape. For your reference, We have prepared a list of plants.
