Shrub Roses

Hardy shrub roses are a favorite here at Little York Plantation. They have been selected for numerous attributes: their exceptional hardiness and performance in CNY, easy care and low maintenance characteristics, and great disease and insect resistance. They include both tried and true older varieties as well as new hybrids bred to provide exceptional beauty as well as unparalleled performance in our harsh winter conditions and beyond - some, such as Topaz Jewel and Rosa rugosa 'Alba' are exceptionally salt tolerant and our newly introduced Scotch Rose, is prized for it's drought tolerance. We have a number of shrub roses for every landscape need: for groundcover, borders and hedges, specimen varieties and those that perform well in massing.

Shrub roses are exceptionally easy to grow and care for and need only a few basic requirements. A sunny spot with at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight in the summer months. Be sure they are also planted in areas with good air circulation to prevent tem from being overcome by fungus or disease. Moist well drained soil at depth is necessary - you may want to amend the soil for new plants with compost. Feed your roses regularly! They will perform better if fed - they will use and need 4x more food than many other hardy plant to support the tremendous number of potential blossoms each season. Mulching in the fall is recommended to protect the canes and provide optimal conditions for a great start in the spring.
